Goals

The goals of the program are:

  1. Learn the basic fundamentals and skills of football!
  2. Encourage sportsmanship, fair play, cooperation, and teamwork!
  3. HAVE FUN!

In order to emphasize these goals, we ask that you, the parents, to be positive role models during practices and games. The games are for the kids, with the spectators on the sidelines acting only in a supportive role. Be a good role model!
Ages: 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th grades.

Grades determined by the upcoming school year.

Games: Games are played on Saturdays at the Sterling Middle School beginning approximately the middle of September and ending approximately the middle of October. Practices will start approximately two weeks before the first game.

Equipment: The South Platte Youth Football League will furnish a NOCSAE approved helmet, shoulder pads, pants with pads, and a mouth guard. Mouth guards must be worn during all practices and games!

Registration: Registration times will be held through out the summer. Times to be announced. All players will be weighed at registrations. Late registrations may be accepted but a $20.00 late fee may be required.

Physicals: Physicals are suggested but not required.

Fees: Registration fees are $75.00 per participant. (This includes a jersey and $10,000.00 medical insurance while at practice and games.

Coaching Responsibilities

  1. Teach the skills needed to compete in the game of football.
  2. Provide a proper learning environment at practices and at the games.
  3. Promote sportsmanship at all times.
  4. Play all your players equally. Giving these young athletes a chance to play and compete is a lot more important at this age than is winning. The positive experience you provide your players will be remembered long after the win-loss record is forgotten!
  5. You are an SPYFL coach first and a team coach second. Coach and help all the players – even those on the opposing team.
